Switching Up the Nonfiction Landscape

Digital magazine Switchboard creates a new home for strong stories, diverse voices and short docs

A few weeks ago, I moderated a conversation at Sundance’s Impact Lounge. On the panel were Celia Aniskovich, editor-in-chief of Switchboard Magazine and Adam Elliott, director of the short film David Again. We spoke about how the persistent need for more visibility for compelling stories told by diverse voices became the catalyst for founding Switchboard. The newly-launched digital magazine champions new writers and journalists by showcasing long-form nonfiction stories which can then be optioned for film and television adaptations, with an innovative and equitable profit sharing model that compensates writers for their work fairly.

Switchboard isn’t just a digital publication; it’s a launching pad for rich, cinematic IP. Our stories are designed to spark not only engagement but also long-term success in the entertainment industry, making this a game-changer for producers, writers, and audiences alike.” – Celia Aniskovich

We also discussed the lack of accessible and monetisable platforms for shorts and how Switchboard is providing a new home for films like David Again. Having premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Festival and winning Best Short Doc at Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival among others, David Again is the first film to be programmed by Switchboard Magazine. Adam tells me about the making of the film and its journey to having an impact. Watch David Again Below:
