Powers is the documentary programmer for the Toronto International Film Festival, the founding artistic director of DOC NYC and the host of Pure Nonfiction. He created the influential screening series Stranger Than Fiction that ran for 15 years at IFC Center in addition to his work as a filmmaker, teacher, and entrepreneur.
